Born in Nagano Prefecture, Yae Tojo graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and completed doctor’s course at its graduate school, consequently being a Ph.D of music. She finished the Nikikai Opera Studio winning the excellence award and studied under Takiko Okabe, Teruo Sanbayashi, Arda Noni and Marcella Reale.
While at the university, Yae made her stage debut through an audition as the lead role of “Die Csardasfurstin”, which won “Ongaku no Tomo” annual concert best ten. Subsequently, she played various roles in operas such as Konigin der Nacht in “Die Zauberflote” sponsored by Tokyo University of the Arts regular concert, Suntory Hall and Japan Vocalist Forum, Pamina and Dame1 in “Die Zauberflote” by Nikikai, Marzelline in “Fidelio” for the opening ceremony of Saitama Arts Theater, Fortune in “L'incoronazione di Poppea” by Nikikai, Angelica in “Suor Angelica” by Nikikai and Ichikawa City Cultural Hall, Lauretta in “Gianni Schicchi”, Tosca in “Tosca”, Violetta in “La Traviata”, Mimi in “La Boheme”, Micaela in “Carmen”, Le Feu in “L'enfant et les sortileges”, The Mother in “Amahl and the Night Visitors”, Gabrielle in "Wiener Blut", Rosalinde in “Die Fledermaus”, Hanna in “The Merry Widow”, Mariza in “Grafin Mariza”, Anna in “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor”, Kijo in Japan Federation of Musicians 50th Anniversary Opera “Kurozuka”, Hojo Masako in The Japan Opera Foundation 60th Anniversary Opera “Shizuka and Yoshitsune” written by Rei Nakanishi, Rokujonomiyasudokoro in “The Tale of Genji” supervised by Tokuho Azuma, Okichi in “Gojunoto”, Fusehime in “Hakkenden”, Red Haired Woman in “Mister Cinderella”, in “Merry Widow” awarded by Mitsubishi Trust and Banking Music Award, in Nagano Olympic Opera and many others. Notably, she played successful parts in Violetta in “La Traviata”, Angelica in “Suor Angelica”, Hanna in “The Merry Widow”, which she is performing repeatedly. She received an official appreciation letter from Puccini Foundation in Italy to her performance in the Puccini opera.
Working widely in music activities, Yae has appeared in recitals, 50th Tokyo Performing Arts Festival 2018 “Japanese Songs”, Nikikai 50th Anniversary 30 days Concert, Nikikai Fresh Concert, Nikikai Autumn Concert, Nikikai Salon Concert, Nikikai Ekiden Concert, Sun Azalia New Year Concert and many other concerts. She is a soprano soloist in numerous stages such as “Beethoven Symphony #9” which the performance in Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Special Concert was highly praised in the newspaper, and “Stabat Mater”, “Mahler Symphony #4”, “Messiah” and so on. She sings in dinner shows, TV commercials and music concerts for students. She has also made many performances with orchestras. Described as a “Rare soprano vocalist who can skillfully perform technical works and good at depicting dramatic expression”, she is playing an active part in wide repertoires.
Passed the 1992 Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Budding Musician Debut Audition, received prizes in 28th Japan-Italy Operatic Vocalist Concorso, 3rd Japan Soloist Contest, Japan-Italy Association Award and The Yomiuri Shimbun Award. Member of Japan-Italy Association, Japan Federation of Musicians, Sankikai, Japan Vocalist Academy, Japan Opera Foundation and Nikikai. Worked as a lecturer at Japan Women’s University Faculty of Human Science and Design Department of Child Studies, and lifelong learning courses. She is also focusing on teaching the younger generation.
She won the grand prize of Japan Gardening Society as a qualified herb coordinator. Book of her essays “Live Menu - Days” is on sale. Resident of Fujimi City, Saitama Prefecture.
